Volunteer Position Descriptions

Educational Program Assistant

Assisting the Education Department staff with instructing school and youth programs such as birthday parties, scout programs, and fishing clinics.

Birthday Party Coordinator

Help coordinate a fun birthday party while instilling the importance of conservation through fishing and wetland tours.

Duties and responsibilities required:

  • Help (and teach) with decorating the lab, lunch, activities, games, fishing or wetlands walks, simulated fishing, and cake distribution

  • The ability to teach children, the patience to explain concepts, and knowledge of the aquatic environment and fishing is helpful – much of what is needed can be taught.  Patience is big for the days of fishing (lots of untangling lines, birds-nests, and constantly tying terminal tackle on).  High energy (but there are two coordinators at a time)

  • Parties are typically on Saturdays and Sundays at 11 am – 1:30 pm and 3pm – 5:30 pm (2.5 hours), parents pick which time and which party they want.  Sometimes there are 2 in a day in which we usually have the same party coordinators do both (8 hours). There may be an occasional party during the week though it is very rare.
